Our Story
Rikka (立夏) means first day of summer in Japanese. Longer days, warmer sun, bolder colours.
Sometimes mellow, sometimes vibrant. Just like our flowers.
We want to be part of your moments to celebrate, to comfort, to express unspoken love, or to complement or boost moods. We want to bring you smiles, just like summer ice cream. We want you to feel the joy, just like in life itself.
We hope you enjoy every stem, and find wonder in nature’s works.
More About Me…
From Caring Little Humans to Blooms
I still remember the quiet awe of noticing carnation petals shimmer and glitter under the light, all nature’s work. Same level of excitement when I first touched flannel flowers, which felt exactly like my cozy flannelette bedsheet. It is about noticing little things that made me thrilled. It is about being present enough to let them move me.
I was a school teacher. My headspace was always occupied at work, or even after work. Everyday life was full but frantic, bustling but overwhelming. I loved witnessing children grow and being their trusted human. But I was hanging in there, barely. Then I stumbled across a floral workshop. I signed up. I attended, made a native bunch for the first time. Later that day I wrote, is this a sign? Maybe… from the universe?
More Presence, Fewer Chaos
Cleaning leaves. Trimming stems. Looking at flowers’ shapes and colours. Put them in where they belong in an arrangement. There is always beauty to admire, void to fill or leave, colours to match. When I am with flowers, time does not exist. I can go on and on. I am enticed to dig deeper, and go further. I am keen to improve when I know I have a long way to go. I like the feeling of being focused, only on one thing. That, is a complete different environment than what a boisterous classroom can offer.
Embarking on this journey feels daunting, but it is what my heart says yes. I want to make peace with my life through the journey of admiring nature and flowers. Would you join me?
